LeeAnne Starcher, a former Curves manager and now dedicated member of the Zephyrhills Curves in Florida, had been happily doing the circuit for years. She was confident that as long as she stuck with Curves, she would be happy, healthy, and fit. What she didn't realize was that Curves would introduce her to a device that just might save her life: the Liv Aid.

Last year, during her club's annual Breast Cancer Awareness event, LeeAnne learned about the Liv Aid - a heart-shaped purple gel device designed to help women detect lumps and irregularities during their monthly breast self-exams.

"Its confusing to know what to look for during a self-exam." says LeeAnne. "I thought the Liv Aid would help identify anything that might be an early sign of cancer."

Four months later, it did just that. While using the Liv Aid, she noticed something different that she felt she had to get checked out right away. After a mammogram, ultrasound, and biopsy, her doctor confirmed her worst fears. Her biopsy showed ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), an invasion and growth of abnormal cells in a milk duct. Although DCIS can be the beginning of several aggressive forms of cancer, LeeAnne's doctor assured her that she'd caught it before the cells could spread.
"After seeing pictures of what the cancer could have become, I was very relieved. I had detected the cells so early that the cancer was actually a stage 0," explains LeeAnne. "I am very grateful for the Liv Aid."

HOW LIV AID HELPS
LeeAnne was able to use the special quality of the Liv Aid to detect a lump that she might not have found otherwise. Each year, more than 250,000 women in the United States learn that they have breast cancer. Thankfully, the number of recoveries is on the rise. One key to a woman's chance of a full recovery is early detection. In fact, 95% of patients whose cancer is caught in its early stages live five years or longer. The Liv Aid helps to accentuate irregularities making premature lumps more noticeable to a woman's hand. To learn more about the Liv Aid and how you can get one, contact your local Curves club.
